BJP accepts Hyderabad’s Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh’s resignation from party

MLA Raja Singh aimed to become the next Yogi Adityanath.

The resignation of T. Raja Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from the Goshamahal constituency in Telangana, has been accepted by the party's national leadership. In a letter dated July 11, 2025, addressed to Mr. Raja Singh, national general secretary Arun Singh confirmed that his resignation was accepted with immediate effect. Interestingly, the Telangana BJP's social media team deleted a post related to this resignation.

Mr. Singh submitted his resignation on June 30 in protest against how the party elected its new state president, N. Ramachander Rao. He claimed he was not allowed to submit his nomination for the election of the BJP state president.

The letter from Arun Singh stated that the issues raised by Mr. Singh in his resignation were irrelevant and did not align with the party's functioning, ideology, and principles. "As per the directions of National President Jagat Prakash Nadda, I inform you that your resignation has been accepted with immediate effect," the letter read.

Mr. Singh expressed disappointment over the high command's decision to appoint Mr. Rao, a loyalist, former Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), and senior advocate, as the state president. He felt sidelined despite having strong support from grassroots BJP workers in Telangana.

Known for his outspoken nature and aggressive Hindutva ideology, Mr. Singh often criticized his party leaders for being too moderate. He hoped to be appointed as the state president and envisioned himself as the next Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, using his strong Hindutva stance to eliminate ‘VIP culture’ from the state unit.

However, local BJP leadership believes that Mr. Singh lacks pan-Telangana appeal, as he is not a Telugu native but is of North Indian origin. This perception of limited appeal beyond certain pockets has been a point of contention.
